START HERE: UCSD PPASO GUIDE

Want to be a PA but don’t know where to start? Start here. The path to PA school isn’t easy, but don’t let that deter you. There are many resources out there ( blogs, Youtube videos, Instagram ), but this guide will be tailored for UCSD students with posts from UCSD prePA students, or UCSD alumni who have been accepted to PA school. It’s for UCSD, by UCSD. This guide is here so you can see the bigger picture of the pathway to PA school. It will be linked to new posts throughout the years, but you can always refer to this page while you are on your journey!

Before you apply:

  1. Research the schools you are interested in

  2. Determine which prerequisites are necessary for EACH school

  3. Get experience

  4. Build connections

    1. With your professors

    2. With your pre-PA and other pre-health peers

  1. If the schools you are interested in require it, take the GRE

What you need when you apply:

  1. Letters of recommendation

  2. Personal statement

  3. Be aware of the costs

  4. Hitting submit

  5. Patience: Wait, wait, and wait some more

What to do when you receive an interview invite:

  1. Know your audience well- their mission statement and values!

  2. Practice your interview questions

  3. Find what you’re going to wear

  4. It only takes one

What to do when you’re accepted:

  1. Celebrate and take time off for yourself, family and friends!!

What to do if waitlisted/not accepted this cycle:

Ask programs you applied to what were some areas you could improve upon. Keep acquiring those hours, volunteering, or retaking classes to boost your GPA. If you know this is the right path for you, stick with it!

Remember that everyone’s journey looks different. Be persistent and stay positive!
